When the state of Chu was destroyed by the state of Qin, he was devastated and threw himself into the river to commit suicide. When the people knew it, they rowed boats to salvage Qu Yuan's body in the river. They were afraid that the fish would eat his body, so they wrapped up zongzi and threw it into the river to avoid the fish's injury.
